  “It felt incredible,” she admits before growing suddenly serious. “Thank you for giving me justice.”

  He nods knowingly, and she sees worry in his brow.

  “I’ve ignored my duty for far too long.” His voice turns somber, but his eyes burn with determination. “It’s going to take time to build their trust in me.”

  “They follow you already,” she murmurs, reaching up to cup his chin and bringing his eyes to her. Fuck, she could lose herself in them every day, and never get tired of the way he makes her feel.

  He pulls her into his arms, and she lifts onto her tiptoes to place a kiss on his lips. Her emotions spill over as her heart fills with warmth. “I’ll follow you to the ends of the earth and back. I love you, Alarik “

  She feels him smile against her lips. “I love you too, mate.”

  He coaxes her to mouth to open for him as he claims her mouth with a sweetly soft kiss. It’s the opposite of their previous encounter, but wonderful all the same.

  Reaghan came to Eileen on a mission: to find her biological parents and discover where she came from. She spent her life always wondering, always feeling like something was missing. That changed the night Alarik came into her life.

  Though her life has turned out to be something she’d expect to find in a book, she’s grateful to finally know the truth about herself. She always knew she was different from the rest of the world, but she never imagined this kind of different.

  A perfect kind of different.

  Epilogue

  Janice and Robert step out of their rental car, searching the area for one face. That of their beloved daughter.

  It’s been months since they last laid eyes on her, but it didn’t take long to spot her violet colored eyes coming toward them—or maybe it was her bright and beaming smile.

  Nonetheless, she was there, walking toward them with open arms.

  “Reaghan,” Janice exclaims before rushing forward to wrap her daughter into a hug.

  “Mama,” she murmurs before burying her face in Janice’s neck. “I’ve missed you so much.”

  Robert wraps his arms around them both, kissing his daughter on the head and breathing in her familiar scent of jasmine.

  “Sweet pea.” He uses his nickname for her, making her heart swell at the sound of it.

  “Papa,” she responds, wrapping an arm around him and bringing him into their hug.

  “Never again,” he whispers. “You’re never leaving us behind again.”

  Reaghan chuckles and releases her hold on her parents. Her mother looks around, spotting Alarik standing ten steps behind her.

  “Is that him?” she asks, making Reaghan frown.

  “What?” she looks over her shoulder, smiling when her eyes connect with his.

  “The man you fell in love with,” Janice tells her daughter and Reaghan gasps. While she had told her mother a few things about her discoveries, she hadn’t told her about Alarik yet. She wanted to do that in person. “Oh, Reaghan, he is handsome.”

  “Mom.” She giggles, feeling the creeping flush as it floods her cheeks.

  “Is he a good man?” her father asks, staring at her mate. Her father had always been protective of her, so she finds nothing odd about his reaction.

  “Yes, the best,” she tells him. He looks down at her with a slow smile because he trusts his daughter’s judgment. He always has. “Don’t worry papa, he toes the line quite well.”

  She looks back toward her mate and shoots him a playful wink, knowing she might pay for that comment later, but the pleasure he’ll take out on her body will totally be worth it.

  She turns back to her parents and scoop them into her arms again, ready to face the world with them at her back and Alarik at her side.
